The Art Appreciation Group is for those who wish to share their enthusiasm for art. Meetings are held mainly in member's homes, but we also visit galleries and other places of artistic interest from time to time. We take turns to contribute on themes such as gardens in art, war artists etc. or focus on particular artists, regions or artistic movements.
Earlier this year we studied art with a 'Love' theme & our current theme is 'Still Life' with some very interesting presentations on Vanitas, Flower Symbolism, Still Life photography & Picasso. We have also recently been treated to a presentation on Baroque in Lecce, Italy & the Skagen Painters: a group of Scandinavian artists who formed an artists' colony in the fishing village of Skagen, in the northern tip of Denmark, from the late 1870s until around the turn of the 20th century.
