Croxley Green u3a Quiz Evening 25th October

The newly formed Ad Hoc Social Events Group kicked off with a Quiz Evening at St Oswald’s Church Hall. This was the idea of Anne, Ruth and Gillian and had been in the planning for a couple of months and the night had finally arrived. A first for such an event outside a Christmas monthly meeting. What better way than to herald the clock change with a quiz!

he Hall was set up with 8 tables - 6 to 8 people per table. 55 people came. It was lovely to see everyone arriving and setting out their food and drink for the evening while immediately starting to solve the 2 tabletop quizzes - a “Sweetie Quiz” and “Sounds the Same”.

The names chosen by the tables added to the fun of the evening, causing much hilarity as the tables jostled for position on our electronic scoreboard, which was masterly managed by Chris Hankinson -whose IT expertise was invaluable.

Table 1. Would be Goods

Table 2. Who do we think we are

Table 3. Golden Oldies

Table 4. Ladies of Interest

Table 5. Bee Line

Table 6. The Secret Six

Table 7. Seventh Heaven

Table 8. Green Bananas

Joker cards were played strategically for 5 of the rounds which included, anything goes, where in the world, let’s get physical, let me entertain you and tasty morsels with past times rounding off the evening.

Order was maintained and the questions and answers brilliantly delivered by our very own Quiz  Master, Martin Wright.

The evening continued with a break half way through with more chatting, eating and solving the tabletop clues. Tension mounted as the last round was called.

The final score board was displayed and the suspense was over!

Prizes for the first three tables and lemons for the last table were handed out.

First prizes went to Table 1. Would be Goods

Second prizes went to Table 8. Green Bananas

Third prizes went to Table 5. Bee Line

Finally Table 3. Golden Oldies received lemons - which were thought could be a good accompaniment to a gin and tonic.

A big thank you to everyone who took part and congratulations to the winning and losing tables

from all of us Anne, Chris, Gillian, Martin and Ruth and thank you to Andy for helping us set up.

Watch this space for the next event.
